Evel Knievel is dead. Long live Evel Knievel.

some heroes can fly. Evel Knievel is dead.

Long live Evel Knievel.

So, as many of you might have heard, Evel Knievel died today at the age of 69. The famous stunt man, motorcycle king, and original extreme sport personality lived a life of bravado and chutzpah and a bunch of other made up sounding foreign words. I’d be very surprised if there was a single intact bone in the man’s entire body (and yes, I’m including the little ones in your ear) and I’d be even more surprised if there was a deadly animal on this earth, past or present, that this hero of heroes did not at one point try to jump over on his motorcycle.

Evel Knievel was the type of man you just can’t find anymore, not because we’ve become a race of weak and timid people or anything stupid like that, but because we’ve passed the period in our collective history where something like this could happen. He was a poor boy that became a hero, not because of outstanding CGI or a complicated 4-issue back story origin arc, or because he won some reality tv show, but because he was a rugged turn-down-no-dares type a guy. He was the inspiration for the quintessential 70s “super” hero. Loud outfit, kung fu kicks, and a really fast ride.

In honor of this legend’s passing, I am resurrecting an old project of mine. “Action Team Go!” is a short run radio serial featuring a cast of characters ripped from the pages of late 70s and early 80s tacky action shows like “The A-Team”, “Knight Rider”, “The Fall Guy”, and “Airwolf” to name a few. The heroes didn’t have superpowers, but they were sure good at poorly choreographed action sequences, and the stunt men on the show usually did all the work of making the main characters look so damn good. Oh, and they always had some sort of killer ride.

I’m going through pre-production right now, revamping some old scripts and keeping an ear open for new vocal talent. I think this show will run smooth, and might make an excellent project for all you Nonny heads out there looking for something incredibly stupid to play with. If you’re interested, mail me, and we can talk about the wonderful world of “Action Team Go!” โ€“ Where the heroes all live fast, drive dangerously, and wear jumpsuits made of spandex.

R.I.P Evel Knievel. I hope you’ll find this show funny when you’re laughing at it from hell. (I assume he buzzes them from heaven all time just for kicks.)

Go, action!

Frank

PS> Why did the villains always shoot their machine guns at the ground near the heroes feet instead of at the heroes themselves? Find out the answer to this and many more stupid questions in our next exciting episode!
