Bonus Round: Xenoblade Chronicles 2

Grab your Blade and set sail across the clouds, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 has finally arrived on the Nintendo Switch!

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is the latest entry in the Xeno series, the long-running set of loosely connected games which dates back to Xenogears in 1998. As the highly anticipated sequel to the Nintendo Wii’s Xenoblade Chronicles, XBC 2 continues the series tradition of mixing sci-fi and fantasy, fantastic music, and extremely British voice acting, but also introduces a whole new world and cast.

The game takes place in a vast sea of clouds, where humanity survives living on the back of massive beasts called Titans. Unfortunately, the Titans are dying out, and the flames of conflict are spreading as everyone scrambles for the remaining dwindling resources. You play as Rex, a young salvager that dreams of finding a mystical land called Elysium, a paradise where humanity can live without fighting. After a salvaging mission goes south, Rex becomes the Driver, or wielder, of Pyra (Pie-rah), a weaponized life form called a Blade that takes the form of a young woman.

While players control Rex during combat, Pyra, or other Blades, will support him with special abilities and elemental powers. Blades are acquired through the story and quests, but some of the most powerful ones are gained as random rewards from special crystals you gather. In a cool bit of cross promotion and connection to the Xeno series, one of the unique Blades you can find is KOS-MOS, the cybernetic weapon and key character from Xenosaga.

Monolith Soft plans supporting Xenoblade Chronicles 2 throughout 2018, and is set to release a variety of DLC including new quests, a new Blade, a challenge mode, and even a brand new story in Fall 2018.
