Teenaged Mutant Ninja Turtles Technodrome by Playmates (1990)

I think there are a few Christmas’s in our lifetimes that really stick with us. I remember one year quite vividly. It was the 90s and like every kid around that time I was in love with the Teenaged Mutant Ninja Turtles. I watched the show, played the arcade game, ate tons of pizza – it was an obsession some might say. However, the greatest things about TMNT were the toys, and wouldn’t you know it just before the holidays when they released what I was certain would be the finest Christmas gift I could ever receive. The giant, mobile, enemy base of Krang and Shredder: The Technodrome.

It was this huge tank-like thing with guns on all sides, and when you opened it up it had different floors with traps and cages. This thing was so awesome you could even have the eyeball top roll off and hit a bunch of turtles like a bowling ball. I had dreams about this the night before Christmas, just hoping Santa had left it for me. Sure enough, there it was under the tree when I awoke, and I don’t think I was as excited on a Christmas morning ever again. Getting that one perfect gift has stuck with me through all these years, and that moment is the strongest feeling of nostalgia I have. So for all you parents out there doing that last minute shopping for the “it” gift of the year; believe me it’s worth it. We don’t forget it.
